I am watching some of the 2000 Jubilee Celebration of the Family on TV, as it is being celebrated by the Holy Father in Rome at the Vatican. It helps me reflect on what a wonderful gift and blessing the "family" truly is. I am blessed to have grown up in a loving home with my parents who raised me and my 4 older brothers to love and respect our Catholic faith. My parents are going to be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this November, 18, 2000. Is it somehow possible to acquire a written blessing from the Holy Father for this special event? My parents names are Ann Therese and William Lawrence Meyer. If this is not the proper forum to inquire about such a request, could someone kindly guide me in the right direction? John Paul 10-2-00 Your Holiness: I want to thank you for your leadership and example. I want to ask you if you think that Abraham, Sarah and Hagar's sins have anything to do with the madness today in the Middle East. I think it does. Additionally I think that Middle Eastern women are being brutalized because of the behavior of Hagar. She didn't have the purity of Mary and I believe that Middle Eastern men still live with that stigma (a moral stigmata?). They require that women be veiled and sequestered. They kill them if they do anything that suggests anything that might color the family "honor". I heard a man on tv matter-of-factly state that he killed his sister. He said, "I had to". I heard this on the Oprah tv show in the US the other day. Have had the opinion about Abraham, Sarah and Hagar for a long time. Believe an educational process needs to be instituted to enable people to understand that God forgave Hagar. He looked after her and her son. He also forgave Abraham and Sarah. It's up to all of us to forgive each other. The madness going on over there can't continue. I saw a picture of a twelve year old boy unsuccessfully being shielded by his father from gunshots. He was killed and his father was mortally wounded in cross fire just in the last few days. Jesus said to pray for our enemies. I believe this is a most important directive. All people in the West need to be praying for the people in the Middle East. Additionally prayer is needed for the populations of Africa for the senseless violence going on there. Conversely we need to be praying in thanksgiving that God is not dealing with all of us because of all the murdering of babies that is still going on. Heard about an innocent man who was executed on death row. George Bush as Governor of Texas wouldn't listen to new evidence that proved the man innocent of the charges. He wouldn't stop the execution. The man's name was Gary Graham. Most of all thank you for upholding the best example of love and compassion that this world could possible have. I wish I could get to meet you. Know I won't ever be able to, but I was standing 10 feet from where you drove by at Abbotsford Airfield outside Vancouver, British Columbia. My young daughter went to school sick that day knowing how much I wanted to see you. She didn't tell me that she was sick and in pain. I have five children, three - sons 43, 41 and 25 and two - daughters 37 and 29. Lost two grandchildren to abortion, one to miscarriage and have six remaining living grandchildren. Of the remaining living grandchildren there are two who I will never get to meet. Sparing you the details there is every possibility that I could be a great grandmother at age 62. My point in telling you this is to ask you to pray for my whole family. My maiden name was Campbell and I had several people tell me (these were strangers) that my ancestors murdered their ancestors in their sleep. I did some research and there are two separate incidents in which 35 to 37 people were murdered in their sleep. There are those who see this as an opportunity to cultivate hatred even today. I decided after I experienced two divorces that I was going to live a celibate life. That was 20 years ago. Today I know that young people don't give themselves time to get to know themselves. They don't even know what good they are capable of. Instead there are young women who curse worse than sailors and demean themselves in order to get attention. Feeling good is an obsession. Please pray that Jesus will send the Holy Spirit over the earth in such proportions that the fighting and killing will stop in the Middle East, Africa will see a disappearance of AIDS and mutilation of young girls in the name of female circumcision and the rest of the world will stop devaluing human life. I've discovered that with celibacy I can love everyone through prayer. Wishing and hoping the best for them is what I wish would consume my time. Instead I have periods of self-pity and remorse for my selfish ignorance when I was younger. Have learned that I am not even supposed to judge myself let alone anyone else. Jesus saying, "Forgive them Father....." covered the multitude of sins even today. I thank you for reading this. If you actually do read this, I want to tell you how much you live in my heart and soul. Seeing you sick I wish I could hold you like Mary held Jesus. I know I have no choice except to accept reality, but can still feel a compassionate twinge of love for you in your standing in our behalf before God. Thank you, for everything you do. Can't help but think that Hagar did what she did out of fear of reprisal from her mistress, Sarah, if she didn't do as she was told. After all, she was a slave. John Paul In paragraph 1036, the 1992 "Catechism of the Catholic Church" infallibly defines the doctrine that the damned are many and the saved are few - even among Catholics.It does so by quoting Matthew 7:13-14. In Matthew 7:13-14 Christ is clearly saying that few Catholics are saved, since he is clearly speaking to those who hear and know him. The doctrine that few Catholics are saved, only involves those who have reached the age of reason, and can choose between good and evil. All who die as baptized infants are saved. A catechism is a summary of doctrine. The "Catechism of the Catholic Church" is a universal catechism, imposed on the Universal Church, by Pope John Paul 11. A Pope cannot impose errant doctrine on the Universal Church. Therefore, the doctrine that few Catholics are saved, is infallible. The Saints always taught that few Catholics are saved, therefore, people made greater efforts to save their souls. As a result, many souls were saved. The Saints always pointed out that Matthew 7:13-14 teaches that few Catholics are saved. my wife and i are trying to baptise our son but are having problems with our church not accepting our noncatholic choice of godparents. the ironic thing is that the friends we have chosen have the what i would consider stronger values then myself. for example they our married through their church in fact i stood in their wedding and me being of different faith did not matter. in fact they are very devoted church goers where i am not as devoted as i should be. also the young lady's father is a preacher at their church. i feel i have made the best choice of godparents possible. please respond and explain why it is not allowed for noncatholics to stand as godparents if all that should really matter is how strong is ones faith and belief in the word of god. thank you.... It has been disappointing to witness the leaders of the Catholic Church in the state of Maine. We have recently had a child at St. James Catholic school, Matthew Denger, be rejected by the diocese to return to the school because he has Muscular Dystrophy. The community is very upset. I ask for your prayers to have the leaders of the diocese reconsider their decision especially when the local community is totally in support, both morally and economically, of Matthew attending this school. It would be what Jesus would expect from us. I just can not understand why the Catholic leaders of this State are turning their backs on a child in need. In essence they are turning their backs on Jesus our savior. Their decision appears to be based on pure economics and a lack of faith in the people of this local community. Paul I'm glad that I found this site. And I ask for some help. The help of PRAYER. Prayer for my wife, my children and myself. You see we are on the verge of divorce. It's not something that I want, and I believe that it's an easy solution for my wife. She believes that she doesn't LOVE me anymore. That she fell out of LOVE with me. But in the recent past before I moved out she had done somethings that has proven to me and others that she still cares and LOVES. Even as recent as last week she has left me messages on my phone with a concerned voice and influxes in her tone of voice that she was wondering if I was okay and everything is alright. She says that she is uncomfortable with me yet she keeps everything I have written her and given her. She has kissed me passionately, she has caress my cheek but she still says that she doesn't LOVE me. She calls ME to look for my daughters when she knows they're with my parents, and she HAS their phone number. She says she wants to be alone but she still calls me. I haven't called her unless her messages sound urgent, I DO want to call, but I've chosen not to so she can have time to think. But I'm asking YOU for help and prayers, because I'm having trouble doing it by myself. I sometimes get weak in my faith. I ask GOD for strength and it has been given to me but sometimes I faulter. I ask GOD for signs and HE has given me some but I NEED for her to see them too. Help me help her to see the truth about OUR LOVE. Help me to help her find her way back to being a FAMILY again. This Email I am sending you is a cry for help! I belong to the Basilica Of St. Adalbert. My school that I whent to is being forced to close down by our Priest Father Tom. Our school was doing fine until our old priest Father Leo was transfered. We got the raw end of the deal. He is totally set on closing our school down so he can use the funds to do hatever he pleases to do with. He is friveling our budget away. He is spending extravagent sums of money on things we would only use once a year. He spent a few hundred thousand dollars on a set of drums we dont need. And now he has another project set . A new bathroom that will cost over a hundred thousand dollars. Our school was doing fine but now he is closing it down. I spent the best years of my life in that school and was the last graduating class. our perisheners have been cut in half since he came. he has got to be the worst priest i have ever known. Dear Pope John Paul. My family was going to see you when you came to the US Jan. of 99. We were on our way to see you and ended up in a auto accident the day before you were to speek. By the grace of God we are here today.We were in bad shape after that. My mom has been in poor health and has crossed over to the other side. As myself I came back to the church. I'm a single mom of a 8 year old girl and she wanted soo much to see you. We don't have the momey to see you in Rome or if we will ever get the chance. After the car accident I'm not longer to work at my old. I'm going back to school. My daughter goes to a privet Catholic school. If by chance would there be any way we cold get to Rome. I don't know how long my mom will last and that would be dream for her to see you. I can't afford much but with Gods grace I'm makeing it threw this tough time. My daughter Kourtney has a devociation to the Blessed Mary, After the accident Kourtney asked me if I saw Rose I asked her who was Rose. She told me her gardian angle was with us in the car. I was in Rome about Five years ago for Christmas and was able to go to your mass at the Vattigan City. We got seats on the left side of you so we were really close. I was with my boyfriend Steve and his two boys David & Ross who are jewish so this was really something different and exciting to them. They told some of there Cathlic friends that they were there to see you at Christmas and they couldn't believe it either. My mother isn't Cathlic but is a member of the Latter Day Saints Church (Mormoms) but she reads books you have written and books about the Cathlic Church. She is in a nusring home in Washington State in a small town Montesano for the rest of her life with multiple Sercrous she's confind to a wheel chair and reads alot! I was wondering if I could send you two books you have written (with return postage envelopes - if you would sign them for her. This would be the trill of her life and when your in her condition you need these things! I would need an address to send them to? Pope John Paul New millennium brings new massacre of Christians by Moslems in Egypt, under the protection of the Egyptian Police.Christian's bodies set on fire while police watched (Update).According to Reuters, On December 31, 1999 Moslems and Coptic Christians clashed in the southern village of Al-Kosheh after a dispute between two traders. US Copts learned from a trusted source living in the same village that the problem started as a fight between Rashed Fahim (Christian) and Fayes Awad (Moslem). During the fight a police solider namely Ali El-Tayh interfered and opened fire wounding three Christians who were passing by. Later came the brothers of the moslem trader and killed the christian trader and his daughter. The village Moslems went on a riot damaging about 45 Christian's stores and homes, in addition to one pharmacy named (Atef's pharmacy). The rioters robbed all found in these Christian owned stores and homes. Following the unrest, a heavy police force was brought to the village on Jan 1, 2000 to stop the fighting. However, on January 2, 2000 Moslem Clerics in near by villages called up on the Moslems to gather up and go to Al-Kosheh village and fight and kill the infidels Christians and Jews. Our source said that these calls, which came from nearby Mosques, could be heard over microphones installed in these Mosques by all police forces that did nothing to stop it. Following these calls hundreds of Molsmes attacked the village of Al-Kosheh opening fires killing at least 22 and injuring about 70 Christians all while a heavy police force was watching and protecting itself?? In one incident, our source said, Moslem went inside the home of Mamdouh Noshy Sadq, killed him, his wife and their three children and then took his body outside the house and set it on fire. The Moslem killers moved on to the house of Alfar Labib, killed him and his brother and burned their bodies as well. All these atrocities were committed while a large, heavily armed Egyptian police force was watching. We would like to point out that the heavily armed Egyptian police had been present in the village since January 1, 2000 and had imposed a curfew on the village which is about 80% Christians. It is under the protection of this curfew that Moslems from nearby villages went inside Al-Kosheh and committed their atrocities. The total dead has not been counted yet as it appears that there are about 22 more people missing. So fare about 61 Christians' owned stores have been robbed and destroyed by the Moslems. The Copts has a list of all store owners. Below is the latest list of all those confirmed dead in this riot. At the present time the situation is like this: the police cordons off the village, utilities are cut off, Bishop Weesa in seclusion in protest (house arrest??? ), the only link is with the church's priest through his cell phone which was working at least until last night. Such actions by the police instigate lots of questions about what the police might be covering up from the media inside the village. The police also prevented reporters and journalist from entering the village. "We expect more incidents, that only God knows how dreadful they will be," the source said. That while our source said that Moslems have now poisoned the village's water reservoir. A Cairo human rights group swiftly condemned the attack and alleged it was premeditated violence against Copts. Security forces intervened and arrested the five involved, the sources said. The arrests angered Coptic villagers, who then rioted and damaged 61 stores and homes in the village. Police restored order and made a further 20 arrests. There are still about 22 people missing and US Copts is worried that their bodies may be hidden by the Moslem killers under the protection of the police. The ironic thing is that some news agencies released a story on 9:43 am 1/1. Blaming the village Copts for the violence. They do not have a resident reporter in El Kosheh. The village was cordoned off since 7 PM 12/31. If you read the story closely you will notice they quote "sources", not their own reporters. In fact these sources are nothing but the Egyptian government in a desperate effort to preempt any angry moves by the human rights groups. Similar massacres and massive attacks had previously taken place in different cities and villages all over Egypt in the last three decades. Among them we only cite, as examples: Al-Khanka, Al-Zawiyah Al-Hamraa, Kafr Demian, Demiana, Imbaba, Ezbet El-Nakhel, Ain-Shams, Al-Fayioum, Benisuef, Dayrout, Al-Qusiyah, Abou-Qurqas, Samallout, Al-Meniyah, Assiut, Qena, and Aswan. The Copts of Egypt, the largest Christian minority in the Middle East, have been subjected to a cruel, though subtle, campaign of ethnic cleansing for the last thirty years. Hundred of thousand of Coptic villagers have been forced to flee out of their homes and land due to such attacks, money extortion or abject poverty. In addition, more than one million Copts have migrated from their homeland. Perpetrators of these grave violations of human rights include Muslim extremists, criminals manipulated by sectors of the police apparatus and the Egyptian government through its discriminatory policies or its inaction. ... Paul I am writing this letter in desperation that you will pass this on to Pope John Paul and to all the churches around the world. My best friends mother is desperate need of a miracle. She has malignant breast cancer and is facing chemo therapy , a both breast are going to be removed. To: his Holiness Pope John Paul II, Holiness, I, a humble servant of Christ in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Montclair, am concerned because I here nothing regarding Our Lady's messages coming through Medjugorje or Father Stefano Gobbi from any of our parish priests. However there is an underground conversation going on among the faithful that is mostly ridiculed by the priests in the area. I have read at least seven hundred of Our Lady's messages and am currently trying to follow to the letter what she has asked. I am happy to report and explosion of grace in my household. ..... Pope John Paul I hope someone who can help me, and maybe if the pope may get a chance to read my plee for help. I my self never had being baptised, but raised with catholic beliefs and values have had a hard time getting my daughter baptised into the catholic church. she attends church when home with me ( her father and i have seperated) and the catholic church has been steady in her upbringing, and what i have been told from many Fathers is to get my self baptised then her, she is 5, by the time i complete classes she will be of age to attend her own classes, i really dont need a certificate to aknowledge her baptismal, but just to know i have taken the step to have her baptised. I feel the connection with god within her, when she was 2 she told me jesus spoke to her, i do not doubt this and i would just like to know that she belongs to the church that she has known and will continue to know through out her life,( in case anything may happen to me i would feel secure in my passing knowing she has been led to gods hands )her cousins have just made there first holy communions and she has inquired to me when she will be able to do the same. her only being 5 and does not quite understand why she cannot start classes next year to do so. so please if someone can offer a solution. god bless all.... I was at the Papal Youth rally and the Mass in St. Louis. I would like to say, that it has really changed teh life of so many young adults here in St. Louis. When I was at the rally, i cried and had a fun time, but it didn't affect me as spiritually as i thought it would. Then i realized, that it came afterwards. I carry it with me everyday in good faith. It was a fun time! I ate 5 bowls of dippin dots! the mass was okay, i was really sick and slept through the thing though. since i am youth, the youth rally was more fun! i am sorry to see the pope in such health conditions though. pray for hi holliness. it was an experience to remember and treasure and pass-on for always. thank you. jp2, we love u!...
